Sedation Is Available For Pain Relief And For Helping Particularly Anxious Patients

We understand that dental treatment can be a stressful experience for some patients. At Bayfield Dental we strive to make your visit as comfortable as possible. Our dentists are gentle and care about your wellbeing. If needed, we can provide sedation therapy to help our patients feel more relaxed and comfortable during their dental treatment.

Types Of Sedation We Can Provide

Nitrous Oxide (Happy Gas)

Nitrous oxide is a colourless, non-flammable gas that's been used in dentistry for more than 150 years. It's also known as "laughing gas" because it can cause light-headedness and a sense of euphoria.

Nitrous oxide has several benefits for dental procedures. First, it is a very effective anaesthetic agent. It can be used to provide complete anaesthesia for procedures such as tooth extractions, and it causes much less pain and discomfort than other aesthetic agents such as lidocaine. Nitrous oxide also eliminates the need for general anaesthesia, which can be risky for patients with health conditions such as heart disease or diabetes.

In addition, nitrous oxide reduces anxiety and stress levels. This makes patients feel more comfortable during procedures, and it can also help reduce the amount of pain they experience. Nitrous oxide is also beneficial for paediatric patients, who can be anxious about dental procedures.

Overall, nitrous oxide offers many benefits for dental patients. It is safe, effective, and causes minimal pain and discomfort. It also reduces anxiety and stress levels, making procedures less stressful for patients of all ages.

General Anaesthesia

For more complex restorative cases or surgical procedures such as the removal of wisdom teeth, we can provide treatment under general anaesthesia in hospital. We cannot provide treatment under general anaesthesia in our regular clinic, it must be administered in hospital under the supervision of an anaesthetist.
